How does scientific research become real-world healthcare innovation?
Student teams from the MSc in Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine, participating in the Lab to Market Initiative, recently explored this question firsthand during a networking visit to Athens LifeTech Park, organized by Columbia Global Center Athens and Endeavor Greece.
As Greece’s first biotechnology park, Athens LifeTech Park is building a vibrant ecosystem that bridges academic discovery with clinical and entrepreneurial pathways in biotechnology, drug development, and life sciences.
Our students attended an introductory session by Eleni Pentafragka, Chief Strategy Officer and Board Member at Elpen Pharmaceutical Co. Inc., followed by an inspiring discussion with Konstantinos Tzortzakis, co-founder and CEO of Anodyne Nanotech, Inc and NTUA-ECE alumnus. The visit concluded with a guided tour of the LifeTech Park facilities.
Experiences like these show what translational engineering looks like in practice: stepping outside the lab, connecting with pioneers who have already bridged research and real-world impact, and developing the mindset to do the same.
Thank you to Athens LifeTech Park, Columbia Global Center, Endeavor Greece, Eleni Pentafragka, and Konstantinos Tzortzakis for making this visit possible.
